Today on Geornee.com I am excited to announce the model of the month. Emily is a free-spirited, fashion lover, and designer. She is obsessed with pastels colors and loves anime. Her style is chic with a touch of street style. Be sure to follow Emily and support her
Geornee': 1. What’s your alter ego name? And how did you transition to the Queen you are today? Emily: Online I usually go by EmiTheStrangeXX0 which comes from that Emily The Strange brand that used to be sold at Hot Topic way back in the early 2000s. I was really into it back then and since I'm a bit of a weirdo I thought the pseudonym fit pretty well :-) For most of my life I've always wanted to wear colorful clothes but until recently I was too shy and nervous to try wearing them so I stuck mostly to black, blues, and other neutral colors. I didn't really start experimenting with fashion until I started sewing about 4 years ago and as I make became more knowledgeable about fabrics and patterns I start introducing it into my wardrobe more and more over the past few years. Geornee': 2. What fashion trends are you obsessed with this season? Emily: I know that painters overalls and 'shorteralls' are really in right now, and I love seeing all the different ways everyone is wearing them. I feel like overalls were considered to be kind of 'frumpy' but everyone is rocking them so hard these days and you can find pairs in so many different types of patterns and styles now. I just got a pair of peach overalls and they're currently my favorite thing.
Geornee': 3. How has your style transition over the years? What celebrity inspires you through this transition?
Emily: Back when I was a ballet dancer I didn't have any style at all, mostly because I was dancing and exercising all the time I didn't see much of a point of putting effort into my appearance. My mom is a costume designer so I've been around fashion, designs, and fabrics my entire life but I didn't start considering how I wanted to dress until I started sewing myself. I started off sewing Renaissance Fair and Victorian-era costumes and from there moved into sewing vintage dresses. I've found that I really like taking vintage patterns and using modern day fabrics with them to make them modern again.
Emily: I wouldn't say I was inspired by any celebrity in particular since I'm not really into pop culture, but I do take a lot of inspiration through the people around me. When I started learning how to swing dance vintage fashion is still really prevalent in that sub-culture so that's why I initially wanted to start sewing and wearing more vintage-inspired outfits. My love for color and street fashion came from all of my friends who are into Japanese and Korean street fashion. Especially on Instagram, you can find so many fabulous people who are into intense street styles like Lolita and Fairy Kei and I just really admire anyone who commits themselves to those really strong looks. Being surrounded by friends who were into it helped me grow more confident and realize that it really doesn't matter what other people think; if you like it you should wear it. Geornee': 4. Before the year ends what’s on your list to accomplish? Emily: I have a really long list of sewing projects, it will be a miracle if I could get them all done before 2018 is over.
Geornee': 5. What job or career do you desire to have? How do you plan on making your dreams a reality? Emily: I currently work a full-time office job, but I want to launch my own small fashion line soon. I'm still developing the brand name and brand identity but I have a lot of ideas that I'd like to see become reality. For now, it's just a lot of brainstorming and producing planning but I'm hoping that by next year I'll be able to launch it online! Geornee': 6. What was it like working with
“Adornbychi” fit the 90’s inspired look?
Emily: So I didn't actually work with Adorned By Chi for that Photoshoot when they shared my picture on their Instagram I was so overwhelmed. I had recently ordered their "90s Anime Aesthetic" shirt and coupled with my new pink locs I got inspired to do an entirely pink monochromatic look. To really hit the 90s anime theme home I thought that I just HAD to do Sailor moon buns and because my locks are so long I also managed to get a Utena vibe too. I loved how the look came together and I was over the moon that Adorned By Chi and so many other people really loved it too.
